After a Funeral / Diana Athill
A memoir about Diana Athill's friend who killed himself. Diana Athill had access to his diaries after he killed himself.
Reminded me of Joe Gould's Secret in that it had a short section in one tone, written without knowledge that more would be written, then it had a longer section in another tone, written later, about the same subject, but from a different perspective.
I liked the diary entries of the character being focused on, "Didi," if someone knows who "Didi" is I would like to know. I would like to read his novel.
I cried at the end due to the last sentence's directness and sort of unexpectedness.
I first read Diana Athill's "Stet" after reading her introduction to Jean Rhys' unfinished autobiography or after learning that she was Jean Rhys' editor for some (or all, I don't know) of her books.
